California’s next renewable energy goal, to work towards cleaner energy consumption and a healthier environment, is one million solar battery storage installations by 2028.
In 2005, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger sponsored legislation that would create rebate/monetary incentives for solar energy products like solar panels for homes and schools. This resulted in a goal for California of one million solar panel installations.
As of 2019, California reached that goal for one million solar panels installed and currently leads the way as the first ranked producer of electricity through solar energy.
Solar panels for homes, businesses, and schools have made California’s goal of a million small-scale solar panels possible, and though this milestone is something to be proud of, the next goal of a million solar batteries by 2028 is seemingly within reach.
Solar energy, especially when using solar panels or batteries, is a viable choice for many. Whether you’re interested in saving costs, especially in the energy/electricity department, doing your part to help the environment, or looking to cover your bases in the event of a blackout, solar panels with home battery storage might be a wise investment.
Solar batteries or home battery storage, like the TESLA Powerwall Battery, receive excess solar power through solar panels and turns it into electricity to be used at a later time, whether it be in the evening or during a time of necessity. Reducing the use of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions can drastically affect the way that we consume our energy and electricity resulting in a healthier environment. When using a cleaner alternative in energy consumption like solar energy, you’re also aiding in the relief of climate change and rising global temperatures.
Essentially, switching to solar panels and a solar battery for storage will reduce reliance on the electrical grid, utilizing a way to power your home with a sustainable energy solution. Not only that, but consumers switching to solar homes are saving and improving their bottom line with this cost-efficient tactic.

Solar energy is also a great investment and solution for families, especially in the event of preparation. Self-reliance is key in the case of keeping your home secure if the electrical grid goes down, and residential solar panels and home battery storage help with that. Preparing for an event in which there is a large number of residents and businesses without power is essential and provides self-sustaining energy and peace-of-mind knowing that you can safely rely on your backup solar energy. Natural weather intervention, which is a leading cause in power outages, needs a solution when an electrical company is stretched too thin to help communities in a timely manner.
During the PG&E blackouts in October 2019, which affected much of Northern California, many homeowners, businesses, and schools included, had to function without power. Over one million people were affected by the power outages with an estimated cost of $2 billion to the economy.
Pushing the boundary and searching for newer and timely solutions is the key to a better and cleaner future. Smart solar homes are one of the keys to a healthier planet and less polluted future and will lead the way in providing a stable and sustainable outcome of consuming electricity.
The goal for one million solar batteries is achievable, as we’ve seen through one million solar panels being installed in 2019. Through policies that would incentivize and nurture sustainable energy solutions like solar homes through the use of panels and batteries, the next goal is within a foreseeable future.
California’s ultimate aim is to become 100 percent clean when it comes to renewable energy and the way to get there is through solar energy. The next milestone of a million solar batteries, whether you’re looking to adopt a self-reliant energy source or to just charge your electric car, is the key to a cleaner and sustainable future.
“Battery storage has increasingly become prevalent due to the utility companies turning off power due to high winds, fire and the like,” said Mark Howe, Sales Manager for Solar Optimum in Glendale, California. “The most vulnerable are the homeowners who rely on electricity for medical baseline purposes such as CPAP machines and other necessary medical devices. The state has allocated additional funding as well. If a homeowner is in a high fire zone and has a medical baseline, they can possibly qualify for substantial discounts to keep their homes and families safe.”
