According to the standards set forth by the Santa Monica’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment, the city seeks to provide a level of confidence for Santa Monica businesses and residents when they choose a solar contractor. The Preferred Solar Installer list reflects that.

Santa Monica’s efforts to promote solar is directly in line with newly-elected California State Senator Scott Weiner’s proposed legislation to require the installation of solar power on new residential and commercial buildings throughout California, reports SolarIndustryMag.com, which goes on to note that, under existing California state law, all new residential and commercial buildings up to 10 stories must have 15% of their roof area “solar ready.”
Weiner is proposing to build upon this current state law by mandating that solar actually be installed on the 15% solar-ready roof area of new, small and midsize California buildings.
