The fast-spreading COVID-19 pandemic is affecting businesses worldwide, and solar panel companies in California, in particular, are facing major challenges due to the social distancing order put in place to protect the health and wellbeing of the general public. To ensure that anyone interested in buying solar panels can do so safely, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) has released a list of best practices created to protect both residential installers as well as customers.
The practices focus around keeping a minimum distance of six-foot – both between installers on the crew and between installers and customers – ensuring proper sanitation and providing installers with personal protective equipment.
“The solar industry plays a crucial part in providing green energy to homes across the nation. Our solar products and services are as important as always – so it is pivotal that we adhere to the guidelines that have been provided to us by SEIA”, said Jerry Carpenter, Director of Residential Sales for Solar Optimum. “For that reason, Solar Optimum was among the very first solar installers in California to quickly adjust our practices to make sure we could continue to offer excellent service – safely”.
Virtual consultations and heightened hygiene policies
In accordance with the SEIA-guidelines, Solar Optimum is offering video consultations via Zoom instead of in-home meetings for customers looking to get residential solar panels.
“Our video consultations work just like in-person meetings, except they are conducted through video chat – all in the name of social distancing – to protect our customers’ health and their solar panel investment. And it is working great. Our customers have been more than receptive to the changes by opting for phone consultations or video conference meetings as opposed to the traditional in-home appointment. Since early March, we have seen an increase in requests for contactless consultations by more than 70 percent”, said Jerry Carpenter.
Turning houses into solar homes while staying safe
Solar Optimum continues to install solar panels for homes in a safe manner. The installation crews have been instructed to keep at least a six-foot distance to customers and each other, practice regular handwashing and sanitation, avoid touching surfaces like doorbells and doorknobs unless provided with the proper safety equipment.
“We are doing everything we can to keep ourselves and our customers safe. The comfort and health of our customers is our top priority, and we are being extra mindful these days knowing that this pandemic can cause a lot of anxiety”, said Vice President of Marketing, Rainier de Ocampo.
