Nevada residents are able to choose between a standard flat rate or time of use, or TOU, rates on their electricity usage. Deciding on which of these is the best for you and your family can be confusing, especially if you don’t fully understand how time of use rates work.
In this article, you will learn when Nevada energy peak hours are and how to use this rate structure to your benefit.
What are Time-of-Use (TOU) rates?
Most of the electrical usage is during the mornings and evenings, when most people are home. Off-peak times – usually during the afternoon – have a lower load on the energy grid.
Electrical companies offer lower rates during these off-peak times under what is typically called “time of use” hours and rates. Utilities customers can save big on their monthly electric bills by taking advantage of this rate structure.
How do Nevada TOU rates work?
Nevada TOU hours are used to help lower the load during the times that the majority of consumers are using their electricity. By moving some consumers to the “off-peak” or lower load times, they are taking some of the stress off the heavier time periods when most are active and helping to reduce potential blackouts and brownouts.
In exchange, the energy company will charge less for these lower usage times slots. By knowing when these hours are and what rates are charged, people are able to budget appropriately and schedule their heavy electrical usage times (such as laundry) on off-peak hours.
