Deciding to choose solar power is a big decision for anyone. However, making the switch in Arizona could have its benefits, especially if the Arizona Public Service (APS) provides your electricity. Keep reading for the answers you need to decide if going solar is worth it for you as an APS customer.
Should APS Customers Go Solar?
If you want to escape expensive electric bills, then the answer is a clear “Yes!” Currently, the APS offers three unique Time of Use (TOU) solar rate plans to help you maximize your usage and net billing options that are easy to apply for. Both will potentially lower your monthly bills if you combine them.
Of the three TOU plans, you have the option to choose:
- 4-7 pm Weekdays: Ideal for most customers, it’s great for larger homes and those willing to reduce their energy use during peak hours.
- 4-7 pm Weekdays with a Demand Charge: This plan may mean you pay more if your power usage goes up during these hours, so it may not be right for everyone.
- Fixed Energy Plan: This ensures that no matter how much power you use, you don’t have to worry about your rates. This can be great if you never use much energy during peak hours.
There are benefits to all three, depending on your situation and the amount of power you use. However, if you can avoid using power during peak hours and have solar panels, the APS will buy back the power you don’t use at a rate of $0.09 per kWh. This means if you choose the right plan for your home, and you can avoid using your HVAC, you could enjoy more energy savings.
What Incentives Does APS Offer Customers?
The APS offers incentives to anyone who uses a battery to store solar energy mostly through the buyback plan. The goal is to help Arizona’s clean energy efforts while making more reliable energy. A solar system can pay for itself if you agree to use your electricity wisely and agree to use less power during peak hours throughout the week.
You will also be able to take advantage of other Arizona solar incentives. This includes a solar income tax credit, tax exemptions and a higher property value without increased property taxes.
Don’t Miss Out Solar Benefits
If you have considered going solar but haven’t done it, you’re missing out. When the APS first began the buyback program, they were paying at a rate of 12.9 cents per kWh. Since then, the incentive has decreased as more people turned to solar power. Unfortunately, this trend may continue, increasing the burden of cost for you in the future.
