In an exciting effort to move towards a greener future, Glendale Water & Power is partnering with Solar Optimum to bring a massive 1.34MW solar system to the new Glendale Sports Complex. This groundbreaking project reimagines community spaces and sets a new standard for sustainable urban development.
A Powerhouse Partnership
Since our beginnings in 2008, Solar Optimum has become established as a premium provider of solar and battery storage solutions. We’ve built a reputation for excellence and reliability through the services we offer across Florida, Nevada, Arizona, and California. Because of our commitment to quality, we use only tier-1 equipment and technology, which has helped us earn the highest-ranked platinum, elite, and premium certifications from all manufacturers.
The selection of Solar Optimum to spearhead the Glendale Sports Complex project is a testament to our expertise in both residential and commercial solar solutions. This partnership will bring together the City of Glendale’s vision for a greener future along with our technical skills to deliver exceptional results.
The Glendale Sports Complex Project
The installation of solar photovoltaic systems on the Glendale Sports Complex parking lot’s car canopies is part of Glendale’s City Owned Solar Development Program, an initiative intended to increase the use of solar energy on city-owned properties. This will maximize space utilization while also providing the dual benefit of clean energy generation as well as shaded parking.
Some of the most significant highlights of this project include:
- An estimated capacity of 1,343 kW, a major contribution to the city’s renewable energy portfolio.
- Over 2 million kWh of clean solar energy generated each year, significantly reducing the complex’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
- An environmental impact equivalent to removing 363 gas-powered cars from the road each year.
Community-Focused Approach
Solar Optimum’s work on this project also reflects our deep commitment to community care and engagement. The construction will be executed in two rolling phases in order to minimize disruptions to the public. Construction will begin in November of 2024 and is expected to be completed by February 2025. Additionally, work will be conducted between the hours of 7:00AM-3:00PM so that there are as few interruptions as possible during the peak operational hours of the athletic fields. A community meeting scheduled for October 3, 2024 at the Sparr Heights Community Center will also provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about the project and its impacts.
Looking to the Future
The Glendale Sports Complex project is an excellent example of how we can reimagine our public spaces to serve multiple purposes, from recreation to renewable energy generation. At Solar Optimum, we’re proud to be leading the way towards embracing a more sustainable future, as well as setting a new standard for commercial solar systems in city settings.
