Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s (SMUD) new Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program is now offering homeowners in the Sacramento region an incredible opportunity to receive significant rebates on a Tesla Powerwall 3 battery storage system. Earn a one-time incentive of up to $5,000 per Tesla Powerwall 3 battery ($10,000 rebate up to two batteries) and a generous quarterly incentive payment by participating in VPP.

What’s In It For You?

How to Qualify:
- Home Ownership: You must be a homeowner in SMUD’s service area.
- Solar and Storage Rate: Enroll in the Solar + Storage rate plan for at least three (3) years.
- Post-PTO Interconnection: Your solar system must have been interconnected after April 1, 2024.
- Program Enrollment: Download the SMUD app and enroll in the VPP program.
- Systems that applied for interconnection after 4/1/24 may qualify for the rebate; legacy systems may receive up to $5,000 per battery.
Important Considerations:
- Rebate Repayment: If you cancel the program before three (3) years, you may be required to repay a portion of the rebate.
- Medical Discount Rate: Customers on a medical discount rate plan are not eligible for this program.
- The battery rebate will paid by check and will be issued directly by SMUD 30-days after initial enrollment has been verified.
