In 2005, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger sponsored legislation that would create rebate/monetary incentives for solar energy products like solar panels for homes and schools. This resulted in a goal for California of one million solar panel installations.
As of 2019, California reached that goal for one million solar panels installed and currently leads the way as the first ranked producer of electricity through solar energy.
