Halloween Safety Tips from Your Neighborhood Solar Company

Halloween is almost here and, while we love to expound on the awesomeness of solar power every chance we get, this holiday deserves some dedicated attention. The sun will forgive us. Halloween is more about the night anyway! Without further ado, here are some Halloween safety tips to help make sure you and your kids have a fun and safe Halloween:

Trick or treat in a group and/or with parents or trusted adults.
Make sure costumes fit (don’t drag on the ground) and keep costume accessories short, soft, and flexible.
Don’t walk near candles or jack o’ lanterns. Even flame-resistant costumes can catch fire.
Carry a flashlight while trick or treating.
Only walk on sidewalks and use crosswalks to cross the street. If one or the other, or both, are not available, walk on the far edge of the road, facing traffic, and, when crossing, be sure to look both ways!
Don’t wear a mask or accessories on your face if it will block your vision.
Don’t eat treats until they’ve been examined for tampering. Better safe than sorry!
If you’re expecting trick or treaters, remove any obstacles along your walkway, lawn, or porch, and, if you have candlelit jack o’ lanterns, keep them away from your doorstep or landing.
Also, if you’re expecting trick or treaters, make sure the path to your door is lit so everyone can see where they’re going.

Okay, we can’t help it, we have to impart a few green tips before wishing everyone a Happy Halloween. If you’re throwing a Halloween party (one of the perks of having Halloween on a Saturday!), there are several steps you can take to make sure it is environmentally-friendly. Preparing the food at home saves resources used for packaging take-out. Using reusable, or at least recyclable, plates, silverware, and cups is also a must. When it comes to decorations, see what you can use at home first before buying. And our last green tip, encourage your guests to carpool.
