Going solar is a big investment. Installing solar panels on a typical residential home can cost homeowners up to $25,000. Luckily, several Nevada solar rebates are available to help make the transition more affordable for customers who make the switch.
Below is a list of solar rebates available in Nevada and how you can qualify to receive them.
1. NV Energy
Any NV Energy customer gets a significant rebate when choosing solar panels. You can use your energy and supply the excess to a nearby grid. You can get a credit on your energy bill to apply for your current and future charges. There is a return of 75 percent on the retail rate on the electricity produced through the solar panels. This has been in effect since 2020 and is something many members are taking advantage of.
2. Valley Electric Association
If Valley Electric Association is your current energy provider, you can get a similar credit as NV Energy. They are also offering a credit of up to 75 percent based on the retail rate of your solar panel’s energy to the VEA grid. This can cover your charges if you are still getting some of your energy from the grid. Once you have the solar panel installed, you need to contact the service department so that they can come out and have your panel flagged for net metering.
3. NV Energy Residential Energy Storage Incentives
Installing a new home battery such as the Tesla Powerwall 2.0 can save Clark County customers considerable money when added to a rooftop solar panel system. The Tesla Powerwall 2.0 home battery stockpiles solar energy so you can use it on demand and power your home self-sufficiently to reduce your reliance on grid electricity.
4. Federal Investment Tax Credit
While this is still an eligible credit, you can use the federal ITC to get a tax rebate for installing solar panels. When you make your purchase, filers can get up to 26 percent credit on the total cost of the panel during purchase through 12/31/2022.
