Despite having plenty of sunshine, Nevada has had a rocky past with net and solar metering. But for the last few years, it has redeemed itself and has been listed in the top ten states with the highest number of homeowners with solar installations.
Families have been subscribing to these innovative energy options to reduce their carbon footprint, slash utility bills by more than 50%, get outage protection, and significantly increase the resale values of their homes. In fact, Nevada committed to join other U.S. states in the program of obtaining almost all of their energy from carbon-free (clean-energy) sources by 2050.
The current Nevada solar rebate programs like energy storage incentives enable homeowners to install and use solar energies for less. As a reputable and certified solar panel company, Solar Optimum works to ensure homeowners get energy security and independence more affordably and straightforwardly.
Solar Energy Storage Incentives Available in Nevada
Although Nevada doesn’t offer statewide energy storage incentives, NV Energy, the largest utility company in the state, has a very advantageous solar incentive program for all customers who pair their energy storage with solar panel systems. The value of the incentives differs depending on whether you are on a time-of-use (TOU) rate and the size of your storage battery.
TOU is a method of determining the amount of electricity you consume at a particular time of the day to ensure your electricity bill aligns with the cost of production. The utility usually charges more during the day when power consumption is high because they spend more to meet the increased power demand for all customers within a particular service area. The prices go significantly low during hours of low demand, like at night when most customers are asleep, because the power plants spend less to meet low customer demands.
- Residential clients with standard rates or other rate plans can receive an incentive value of about $0.095 per kilowatt-hour, up to $1500 or 50% of equivalent costs.
- Residential clients with TOU rates can receive utility offers of about $190 per kWh storage capacity or up to $3000 or 50% of equivalent costs.
Non-residential customers under NV Energy can also qualify for storage incentives when installing solar-plus-storage systems or standalone storage systems. Like the residential clients, their incentive value depends on the size of the storage battery, ITC eligibility and whether the battery is connected to on-site renewable sources.
For clients who want to try TOU rates to enjoy more utility offers, NV Energy offers a risk-free trial. If they subscribe to a rate of at least 12 months, the utility promises the lowest rate, and if they realize you have spent more than what you used to spend on the standard rate, they will restore the standard one and refund you the difference.
